Born in Patras, Greece. Based in Greece.
Maria Asimakopoulou holds a Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Technology & Communication and a Master’s degree in Design of Digital Cultural Products from the University of the Aegean.
Her practice spans sculptured forms, light installations, and spatial structures. Having previously worked on large-scale theatrical and scenographic constructions, her artistic focus underwent a fundamental shift toward paper — a transition driven by environmental ethics, the infinite structural capabilities of the medium, and a profound philosophical inquiry.
Embracing paper not merely as a surface, but as a living, three-dimensional medium, Asimakopoulou explores the interplay between light, shadow, and organic geometry. Her work challenges the traditional concept of art as a permanent, immortal object, proposing instead an appreciation for the ephemeral — reflecting the natural lifecycle, transience, and impermanence of human experience.
